The clients wanted to ‘reclaim’ their rear garden, introducing year-round colour and structure, greater benefits for wildlife and defined areas for seating and a hot tub.
As they still needed to maintain space to play with their energetic boys, we levelled the lawn and created a dedicated circular area with a raised border of ‘tamed wild’ planting wrapping around it. The oak sleeper edging continues through the border to give sculptural interest through the year within soft planting. We managed to reuse the client’s existing paving and bench to minimise waste.
Thanks to the addition of a small, manageable water bowl and the wildlife-friendly planting (maintaining seedheads through the winter) the garden is alive with birds and insects within the first season, as well as ball games!
