Special Gardens for Hospice Children and Families

In addition to my private design work, I have also worked as Garden Projects Manager for Greenfingers Charity – creating magical gardens for children in hospices across the UK.

A Greenfingers garden can be many things – an area for play, exploration, therapy, reflection and relaxation – often simply a space where children in hospices can spend time together with their family, friends and carers in an inspiring and protective environment, outside in the fresh air and away from the bedside.

At the heart of Greenfingers’ work is the belief that for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, time spent outside in a natural environment can be enormously beneficial. In the role I worked to co-ordinate designers. contractors, volunteers and donors to thoughtfully design and build special gardens to suit the needs of the children, families and carers who spend time there.

“It has been a great pleasure to work with Emma on a prestigious hard and soft landscaping project, over the last 6 months. Her professionalism and lovely sense of humour helped to see the project (and us!) through what was a complicated garden from start to finish.

It soon became evident that Emma is well respected and admired for her management and communication skills not only by my team on the ground, but also throughout the complicated web of persons that make up such a multi-faceted project. Her professional demeanour combines wonderfully with her good nature and this is all backed up with a strong understanding of landscaping, horticulture and design.
Emma’s excellent relationship with our client was inspiring, and we only wish Emma could be by our side in future projects to plan and execute further beautiful gardens. We wish her well and continued success in all that she aspires to achieve.”

“Emma is thoughtful, professional, knowledgeable and a delight to work with in the creation of any garden, as she thrives on bringing the therapeutic beauty of gardens, whatever their size, into people’s homes …and lives. She is meticulous and thorough in her approach to garden design and project management, which underpins her passion to bring accessible gardens and gardening to everyone.”
